Tapati Rapa Nui is more than a festival, it is a living manifestation of the identity and pride of the Rapa Nui people. During the festival the participants, and even the entire island, are divided into clans or families that compete in various artistic and sporting activities, with the objective of winning points in favor of their candidate for queen. Among the most outstanding competitions is the Tau'a Rapa Nuia triathlon that takes place in the crater of the Rano Raraku volcano.
Tapati nights are illuminated by traditional dance and music performances. The Takonaa competition of body painting with natural pigments, and the Kai KaiThe Rapa Nui, a narrative art that uses carved figures, are artistic expressions that reflect the stories and legends of the island, transmitting from generation to generation the essence of the Rapa Nui culture.
