OUR MONOÏ OILS FROM TAHITI
French Polynesia is home to one of the world's oldest beauty secrets: Monoï de Tahiti. Made from two of its natural treasures - Tiaré flower and coconut oil - this oil has been part of Polynesian care rituals since time immemorial. At Anakena, we offer it in two unique versions: classic Tahitian Monoï Tiare, versatile and nourishing oil for body and hair, and the Monoï de Tahiti Ra'ā Pura-Pura, our uniquely formulated bronzing oil with shimmer. Each with its own personality - and both with the Appellation d'Origine seal.
THE FLOWER AND THE COCONUT - THE INGREDIENTS OF MONOÏ
Gardenia Tahitensis
Tiare Tahiti
The Tiare Tahiti (Gardenia tahitensis) is the national flower of French Polynesia. Wonderfully fragrant, it is a symbol of Polynesian identity and the soul of the Monoï. The plant is native to Melanesia and Western Polynesia - it was the Maohis, the inhabitants of the South Seas, who introduced it to the Cook Islands, French Polynesia and possibly Hawaii, during their long sea voyages. It is precisely this flower that is macerated in coconut oil to create Monoï de Tahiti, transferring to it its unmistakable and sensual aroma and its nourishing and moisturizing properties.
Coconut oil - the white gold of Tahiti
The coconut (Cocos nucifera) is an iconic fruit of Tahiti and its islands. Its refined oil, light golden in color and silky in texture, is exceptionally rich in essential fatty acids and valued for its nourishing and moisturizing properties. It is the perfect base for macerating Tiaré flowers and creating authentic Tahitian Monoï.
Ancestral beauty secrets
Pure Monoï oil originated in the South Pacific islands, where it has been used for centuries by the Maohis for curative, cosmetic and religious purposes. Monoï is one of the oldest preparations in the world. «ra'au Tahiti» - Tahitian knowledge of plants and their active ingredients to heal the skin and mind.
HOW MONOÏ DE TAHITI IS MADE
The best thing that can happen to a coconut.
Monoï de Tahiti is the result of a strictly controlled traditional process carried out exclusively in French Polynesia. Tiaré flowers are harvested before dawn and immersed for 12 days in refined coconut oil (Coprah), with a minimum concentration of 12 flowers per liter, using a special method of enfleurage. The process takes place at room temperature, without heating the oil. The flowers transfer their moisturizing and nourishing properties and their characteristic fragrance to the oil. After 12 days, the macerate rests for 24 hours, is filtered, cleaned and a natural antioxidant (tocopherol solution) is added.
Monoï de Tahiti oil is used in cosmetics both as a final product and as an ingredient in creams, lotions, shampoos and soaps.
Appellation d'Origine - Appellation d'Origine - Denomination of Origin
Monoï de Tahiti is the first cosmetic product in the world to receive an appellation of origin. Its entire manufacturing process is regulated and protected by the seal of origin. Appellation d'Origine, established by the French Decree of April 1, 1992. Both Monoï oils of the Anakena line bear this seal on the label on the back of each bottle.
