General Questions

ANAKENA - Natural Cosmetics takes its name from the Anakena beach, a mystical ceremonial place, with its Ahu Nau Nau (an ancient platform) and its wonderful moais (famous stone figures), on the Easter Island (Chile).

Anakena, the main beach of Easter Island, represents the typical idea we all have in mind when we think of a paradisiacal beach. The fine white coral sand, the crystal clear turquoise sea, the calm waves and the coconut trees make it an ideal place for relaxation. But Anakena is not only an idyllic beach, this place is considered the cradle of Rapa Nui history and culture.

It is thought that the word Anakena comes from the union of the terms "ana"which means cave in the Rapanui language, and "kena", the native name for the booby (Sula dactylatra), a seabird that still nests on the island today.

The image you see in the Anakena logo is that of a moai and is part of our brand.
Moais are carved stone sculptures and are the best known image of Rapa Nui (Easter Island), but few know that they represent "the living face of the ancestors". These huge sculptures were placed on their altars or platforms, called "altars" or "platforms". ahuso that its "mana"or spiritual power to protect his tribe.
For this reason, the moai is the image of Anakena - Natural Cosmetics, because it represents the protective spirit and the ancestral magic of Rapa Nui.

Our headquarters are located in Rapa Nui - Easter Island, the wonderful island that inspires the Anakena cosmetics line and the place where our company was born.

About our Products

With the exception of Monoï de Tahiti, which is produced directly in Tahiti following the criteria required by its "Appelleation d'Origine", the rest of the products that make up the Anakena Chile cosmetics range are produced in the renowned Bellcos Laboratory, based in Santiago. Unfortunately, due to its isolation, for the time being, Rapa Nui does not have the necessary means to manufacture cosmetics, although our brand was born there and our headquarters are located there.

The Anakena line consists of 10 products: an exfoliating shower gel, a delicious body butter, a moisturizing face cream, a delicious Eau de Parfum, a mild liquid soap, a moisturizing hand cream made with Rapa Nui honey, a natural shampoo for all hair types, a nourishing conditioning balm, the fabulous Monoï de Tahiti Tiare oil, and our most recent launch, the Natural Eau de Cologne Summer Mist.

All ANAKENA - Natural Cosmetics cosmetics have been carefully designed, developed and elaborated to contribute to your overall well-being, using natural raw materials and effective formulas.

Each of our formulas has been designed under rigorous quality standards. The ingredients and active ingredients are carefully chosen to guarantee the effectiveness of each product through high concentrations.

We choose noble raw materials, several of them with organic origin backed with ECOCERT certification, paying special attention to the quality and sustainability of their origin, as well as their respectful extraction, making sure that each of these processes allow the conservation of their wonderful properties.

In Chile our cosmetics are manufactured in the renowned Bellcos Laboratory. Our company Rapa Nui Natural Products EIRL complies with all legal requirements including, of course, the registration at the Institute of Public Health (ISP) of all products in our line.

In each batch the formula is exactly the same and the product always maintains the same high quality. Each package is marked with the lot number and expiration date of the product.

At Bellcos Laboratory, as in the laboratory that manufactures Monoï de Tahiti Anakena for us, exhaustive quality controls are carried out on each batch. Products are ready to be marketed only if they meet the established standards and are within the permitted ranges.

Anakena cosmetics are characterized by their floral-fruity aroma. Its fragrances are designed to evoke the feeling of well-being, relaxation and harmony that one has in the paradisiacal beaches of Easter Island and Polynesia, leaving the skin with a pleasant sensation of summer, sun and sea.

The face cream, body butter, exfoliating shower gel, eau de parfum, shampoo, balm, mild soap, hand cream and, of course, the wonderful Monoï de Tahiti oil, have the traditional Monoï fragrance, a delicate fragrance with sweet touches.

We say it is floral-fruity because it is the result of the maceration of a typical Polynesian flower called Tiare Tahiti (gardenia tahitensis), in refined coconut oil, extracted from the pulp of the fruit. The traditional production of Monoï is carried out in a very controlled manner in Tahiti and has an appellation of origin.

The result of this maceration is a very soft and short-lasting scent. That is why at Anakena we use a Monoï scent specially developed to ensure that the fragrance remains on the skin for many hours.

The scent of the new product in the Anakena line, the Natural Eau de Cologne "Summer Mist", combines citrus fruit notes with floral notes of tipanie and sandalwood. It is a fresh and energizing fragrance that on drying leaves a warm and relaxing scent on the skin that evokes the feeling of a wonderful summer vacation afternoon.

The characteristic scent of Anakena Eau de Parfum is that of Monoï, a floral-fruity fragrance typical of Polynesia and very rarely used in cosmetics.

It is a delicate fragrance with sweet touches, resulting from the maceration of a typical Polynesian flower called Tiare Tahiti (gardenia tahitensis), in refined coconut oil, extracted from the pulp of the fruit.
At Anakena we use a Monoï scent specially developed to ensure that the fragrance remains on the skin for many hours.
Anakena Eau de Parfum is designed to be a connection between you and the paradisiacal beaches of Polynesia, leaving your skin with a pleasant sensation of summer, sun and sea.

The olfactory pyramid of our fragrance is as follows:
Notas de Salida/Head notes: Floral - classical
Body notes: Floral - fougere
Base notes: Powdery - sweet

Radiant Tiare Tahiti (gardenia) fuses with ylang-ylang and jasmine flowers to create a captivating olfactory trail that, together with soft notes of tonka bean and vanilla, form the base of our Anakena Eau de Parfum.

Castor oil is the name of castor oil, and this is one of the ingredients of the delicious Anakena Eau de Parfum. Although its name may cause some confusion as it brings to mind the animal called castor, the ingredient has no relation to it.

We know that our customers are concerned about animal welfare and that is why it is important for us to make this clear and give them complete peace of mind about the raw materials we use in the production of our products.

The ingredient "castor oil" (NCI: ppg-26 buteth-26 / peg-40 hydrogenated castor oil) refers to oil derived from the seeds of the castor plant. PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil is an emollient and emulsifying agent obtained from a combination of synthetic polyethylene glycol (PEG) and natural castor oil. This ingredient helps solubilize other components in our Eau de Parfum formula, enhancing its aesthetics and performance.

The new Natural Eau de Cologne "Summer Mist" has a fresh, youthful and energizing scent, designed to fill every day with joy and optimism.

Its fragrance is the result of the perfect combination of the citrus fruit perfume with the floral notes of tipanie and sandalwood.

It is a fresh, invigorating fragrance with sunny notes that on drying leaves a warm, relaxing scent on the skin that evokes the feeling of a wonderful summer vacation afternoon.

The perfume notes of our Summer Mist body fragrance are:

Exit/Head Notes:
orange, grapefruit, pear, apple
Body Notes:
sandalwood, white musks
Base Notes:
white flowers, plumeria-tipanie, sunny notes

Our products are made with natural active ingredients and should therefore be stored in a cool, preferably dark place. Direct exposure to direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, both very high and very low, should be avoided.

It is important to prevent water from entering the containers, as this can contaminate the products and affect their effectiveness.

After each use it is important to close the container properly and keep the product outlet clean.

No. Anakena is 100% "animal cruelty free", which means that neither we, as manufacturers of the cosmetics, nor the manufacturers of its ingredients, perform experiments on animals. We have the seal of the NGO Te Protejo de Chile that accredits it.
For more information follow the link.

It is not easy to answer that question, because even if the main ingredients of a product are vegan at first glance, it is possible that some of them include some non-vegan component. A very easy to understand example is beeswax. In principle, beeswax is a component produced by animals, but it is not strictly speaking of animal origin. In our opinion, if a cosmetic product contains beeswax, it is still vegan.
Therefore, we understand that Anakena cosmetics do not contain any ingredients of animal origin, so we could consider that they are indeed vegan.

Yes, it is possible that in some cases the color of the Anakena facial cream may change, acquiring a slightly pinkish tone.
The reason this can happen is because of the ingredient we use to give it its delicious aroma. It is a natural fragrance that changes color over time. The face cream is white when it leaves the laboratory, but may gradually turn a faint pink color.

On the other hand, because we also use natural and organic extracts for their production - as with all raw materials derived from nature, plants, etc. - they are not always the same and their color depends on several factors such as time of harvesting, etc. - these are not always the same and their color depends on various factors such as harvesting time, etc. For this reason, these natural extracts can also have an effect on the production of the different batches.

Of course, in each batch the formula is exactly the same and the product always maintains the same high quality.
Exhaustive quality controls are carried out in the laboratory on each batch, and products are ready to be marketed only if they meet the established standards and are within the permitted ranges.

Because we use natural and organic extracts for the elaboration of our balsam - as with all raw materials derived from nature, plants, etc. - they are not always the same and their color depends on several factors such as time of harvesting, etc. - these are not always the same and their color depends on various factors such as harvesting time, etc. For that reason, variations in these natural extracts can have an effect on the production of different batches of the balm and change its color. Even the product may change color after some time, in this case from white to brown.

But we guarantee the quality of each of our batches and despite possible color variations, the formula is exactly the same every time. Exhaustive quality controls are carried out in the laboratory on each batch and the products are ready to go on the market only if they meet the high standards set and are within the permitted ranges.

For our hand cream we use an "airless" container which means that it is vacuum packed. Before the first use, you will need to "pump" a few times before the cream comes out of the valve. Once the cream comes out the first time, no more pumping is needed, the cream comes out instantly.

By the way, this container is excellent for cosmetic products, not only because of its practical format, but also because it avoids constant contact between the cream and the fingers (what happens with a conventional pot). In addition, the membrane located at the opening of the container gives even more protection to the content, preventing it from coming into contact with the air or with some bacteria.

The airless dosing system of our container is characterized by a very good drainage capacity, which means that you will be able to take advantage of its complete content without any leftovers at the end that you cannot use, as happens with some other containers.

We do use plastic packaging in some of our bath and shower products, but we do so for safety reasons and always use PET and PE/PP plastics which are recyclable.

At Anakena we are committed to the environment, so one of our main concerns is to use containers and packaging that can be recycled. That is why we thank all our distributors and customers for helping us to take care of the environment by taking the cardboard boxes and empty cosmetic containers to the plastic, glass or paper containers, as appropriate, thus returning them to the recycling cycle. Together we will take care of our beautiful planet!

About our Ingredients

INCI stands for INTERNATIONAL NOMENCLATURE FOR COSMETIC INGREDIENTS. This means that the INCI (ingredients) of each cosmetic product, whether cream, shampoo, soap or makeup, must be properly declared.

You can find the INCI (ingredients) of our products in the following link: https://anakena-cosmetics.cl/nuestros-productos-productos-estrella-ingredientes/

No. Our products do not contain any dyes.

No, neither Anakena shampoo nor balm contains silicones. Silicones are synthetic ingredients that coat the hair with a thin film that makes it appear shinier, but it is an artificial shine.

The silicone layer clogs the hair, making it difficult for it to properly absorb oxygen, moisture and sunlight. In the long run this can result in dry, damaged hair. Silicones are listed among the ingredients under names such as dimethicone, polymethylsiloxane, dimethyl silicone or polysiloxane.

Anakena shampoo and balm contain ingredients designed to stimulate the hair's natural shine, resulting in healthy and hydrated hair.

Our formulas do not contain microplastics.

Unfortunately, many cosmetic, personal care and hygiene brands continue to add microplastics such as polyethylene, PET, Nylon-12 or polyurethane, despite the fact that they are not necessary and the significant damage they cause to the environment and health.

Microplastics are solid synthetic polymers, very small in size (less than 5 mm in diameter) and whose most serious characteristic is that they are not soluble.

Because they are so small and not soluble, microplastics are not removed by water filtration systems and end up in rivers and seas where they are ingested by marine wildlife. In addition to the significant damage caused to animals, these microplastics later enter the human food chain (through the fish and other marine species we consume), releasing hormonal pollutants into our bodies.

Parabens are chemical preservatives that are added to most cosmetics and personal care products in order to make them more durable over time, preventing the appearance of microorganisms such as fungi or bacteria.

But in addition to preserving products, parabens can cause allergies and some studies link them to breast cancer.

For this reason, Anakena cosmetics are free of parabens.

Anakena cosmetics do not contain any PEG components.

PEGs (polyethylene glycol) are a group of chemical substances derived from petroleum that may contain toxic impurities capable of penetrating the body through the skin.

Although their use is accepted in cosmetics due to their low concentration, PEGs are substances that can cause significant damage and alter the skin's natural barrier. Recognizing whether a cosmetic contains PEGs is simple, they are identified on ingredient labels (INCIs) by their acronym followed by a number (e.g. PEG-2, PEG-9).

At Anakena we care that each of our cosmetics provides benefits to the skin and hair, without damaging them. That is why we do not include any PEGs in our products.

In cosmetics it is common to use surfactants or surfactants of synthetic origin such as sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), which has irritating effects, dries the skin and can cause allergies, although when used it produces enough foam creating a feeling of greater cleanliness.

However, it is possible to use other types of more natural and environmentally friendly surfactants that are obtained from vegetable oils such as coconut oil and are therefore gentle on the skin.

Although they produce less foam when used, this does NOT mean that they have less cleaning power. An additional advantage is that less water is needed for their use.

At Anakena - Natural Cosmetics we use more natural surfactants to ensure that our shower gels and shampoos provide effective yet gentle cleansing, in harmony with skin and hair.

In addition, unlike chemical surfactants, plant-based surfactants are biodegradable and therefore environmentally friendly, which is essential for us.

No. All Anakena products are free of parabens, PEGs, silicones, mineral oils and other critical chemicals.

Anakena cosmetics do not contain sulfates.

Sulfates are a type of chemical surfactants that are used in products such as shampoo as cleaning agents to dissolve dirt and grease.

The most common sulfates in cosmetics are SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate), as they produce a lot of foam, clean very intensely and are cheap, so they are found in many products (detergents, shampoos and facial cleansers).

However, their cleansing power is so strong that they not only clean but also attack the protective lipid barriers of skin and hair, resulting in dry, tight skin and dry, dull hair.

Monoï de Tahiti

Monoï de Tahiti is a macerate of Tiare flowers (Gardenia tahitensis) in refined coconut oil (coprah), which is produced in Tahiti. The fresh Tahitian Tiare flowers are soaked for 12 days in coprah oil with a minimum concentration of 12 flowers per liter, using a special method of enfleurage. After this time, the macerate is left to rest for 24 hours. It is then filtered, cleaned and given a natural antioxidant (tocopherol solution).

We have prepared a complete page for you with more information and possible applications:
https://anakena-cosmetics.cl/nuestros-productos-productos-estrella/Monoï-de-tahiti/

A very important detail to remember is that Monoï is a natural oil extracted from coconut pulp, so at temperatures below 24°C, Tahiti Anakena Monoï solidifies and changes color. But this is normal and it is enough to immerse the bottle in hot water for a few minutes for the oil to be ready to be used in a variety of beauty treatments and massages.

By the way, each bottle contains a flower of Gardenia Tahitensis, also called Tiare Tahiti.

You can learn about all the possibilities of Monoi oil by visiting the page we have prepared for you with complete information about this Polynesian jewel:

Monoi de Tahiti Anakena Chart Temperature

It is a Tiare Tahiti flower! (gardenia tahitensis) as a "certificate of authenticity" that the Monoï Anakena oil is an original macerate. As we have already told you, it is these flowers macerated in a refined coconut oil that give Monoï its delicious aroma and transfer its wonderful properties. This is how the incomparable Monoï de Tahiti Anakena is born.

You can learn more about Monoï and its properties by following this link: https://anakena-cosmetics.cl/nuestros-productos-productos-estrella/Monoï-de-tahiti/

It is the first guarantee of origin seal to be created for a cosmetic product. This type of seals (protected designations of origin and protected geographical indications) confirm the origin of products and are particularly well known in the food sector, such as champagne, Camembert de Normandie, Aceto Balsamico di Modena, etc.

Monoï de Tahiti is the first cosmetic product to receive a Denomination of Origin seal. This seal on the label confirms the Polynesian origin of its ingredients, the strict control in the selection of ingredients and the quality of its manufacturing process. This is by no means a seal that only Anakena products carry, but an appellation of origin for all Tahitian Monoï produced in French Polynesia in accordance with the seal's regulations.

Appellation d'Origine

"Appellation d'Origine": rules of use

The exceptional properties of Monoï de Tahiti were officially recognized in April 1992 by the Appellation of Origin and guarantee of authenticity and quality. This recognition is limited to products that are produced in French Polynesia according to local and constantly monitored manufacturing processes: The Gardenia tahitensis (Polynesian flower, also called Tiare Tahiti) is macerated in refined coconut oil. The guarantee derived from this designation has helped Monoïs 90% to comply with current legislation.
