Today we celebrate a very special day in Chile, dedicated to honor the native people. At Anakena - Natural Cosmetics, we feel deeply connected to the traditional people of Rapa Nui and are proud to be their ambassadors.
On remote and wondrous Easter Island, the Rapa Nui people have managed to survive and thrive for centuries on one of the most isolated islands on the planet. Their resilience and adaptation are a testament to human ingenuity and fortitude. As a brand, Anakena is deeply proud to have been born and inspired by Rapa Nui. Our connection to this magical island drives us to continue working for a world where the voices of indigenous communities are heard and respected.
Indigenous peoples around the world represent an essential link to our history, our culture and our nature. They teach us the importance of respecting and protecting the biodiversity that sustains life on our planet. Their legacy is fundamental to the future of the Earth, reminding us of the importance of preserving our traditions and promoting sustainable development.
Chile has 11 officially recognized indigenous peoples, each with its own culture, history and connection to the land:
Mapuche: The largest indigenous group in Chile, located mainly in the Araucanía region.
Aymara: They live mainly in the north of Chile, in the region of Arica and Parinacota.
Atacameños (Lickan Antay): They live mainly in the Antofagasta region, in the Atacama Desert.
Diaguita: Located in the small north of Chile, especially in the Coquimbo region.
Quechua: They are also found in the extreme north of Chile, mainly in the Tarapacá region.
Colla: They live in the Atacama region of northern Chile.
Kawésqar: A maritime nomadic group that inhabits southern Chile, in the region of Magallanes and Chilean Antarctica.
Yagán (Yámana): They inhabit the extreme south of Chile, especially in the Magallanes region.
Rapa Nui: Native to Easter Island, located in the Pacific Ocean.
Chango: Coastal towns in northern and central Chile, recently officially recognized.
Selk'nam (Ona): A native people of Tierra del Fuego, although today there are very few direct descendants.
On this day, we would like to pay tribute to all native peoples. Their ancestral wisdom inspires us to build a more respectful and sustainable future. Let us honor their legacy and their deep connection to the land.
