The Tiare Tahiti<\/strong>, Gardenia tahitensis is the national flower of French Polynesia and a symbol of Tahiti and its islands. Its white petals, arranged in the shape of a star, give off an unmistakable fragrance: soft, floral, exotic and with a character reminiscent of jasmine.<\/p>\n

For the inhabitants of the South Pacific islands, the Tiare is much more than a flower. It is part of tradition, everyday beauty and Polynesian cultural identity.<\/p>\n

When worn behind the ear, it follows a precise code: on the right it indicates that the heart is free; on the left, close to the heart, that the person is already engaged. As a necklace or wreath, it accompanies the welcome to those who arrive and conveys a sense of hospitality.<\/p>\n

In the Polynesian tradition, it has also been used for generations in natural preparations, baths and care rituals. Its delicate aroma and its traditionally appreciated properties make it a flower closely linked to well-being, beauty and skin care.

How the Tiare flower arrives in coconut oil<\/h2>\n

The key to making authentic Mono\u00ef de Tahiti lies in a traditional maceration process that is carried out exclusively in French Polynesia. This process is regulated by the Decree of Appellation d'Origine<\/a> <\/span>of April 1, 1992.<\/p>\n

\"Tiare<\/p>\n

The Tiare flowers<\/span><\/a> are harvested very early in the morning, starting at about 5:00 a.m., when they are still in the bud stage, just before they fully open. They should be processed the following day at the latest, because their aromatic and natural qualities are particularly delicate.<\/p>\n

Then, the fresh flowers are placed in refined coconut oil, also called coprah oil, following the traditional method of enfleurage. This process is done at room temperature, without adding heat.<\/p>\n

To produce Mono\u00ef de Tahiti, at least 12 flowers per liter of oil are used for a minimum maceration of 12 days. During this time, the flowers give the oil its characteristic fragrance and care qualities.<\/p>\n

After maceration, the oil rests for 24 hours. It is then filtered, cleaned and stabilized with a natural antioxidant, a tocopherol solution. The result is the authentic Mono\u00ef de Tahiti oil.<\/p>\n

An important detail<\/strong>The coconut oil of Mono\u00ef de Tahiti Tiare can solidify or look cloudy at temperatures below approximately 24\u00b0C. This is completely normal. Just place the bottle for a few minutes in warm, not boiling, water and the oil will become clear and liquid again.

In addition to our Mono\u00ef de Tahiti Tiar\u00e9, at Anakena we also have the Mono\u00ef de Tahiti - Bronzing Oil with Shine<\/span><\/a>, our version with a subtle mineral sheen for the skin.<\/p>\n

This product does not include a whole flower visible inside the bottle. This is due to its formulation and its presentation as a bronzer oil with shimmer, where the visual prominence is in the luminous effect on the skin.<\/p>\n

However, it is important to clarify: the Mono\u00ef de Tahiti with Glitter<\/strong> is also made from authentic Tahitian Mono\u00ef. Its base comes from the same traditional principle: Tiare flowers macerated in coconut oil using the enfleurage process in French Polynesia.<\/p>\n

The difference is in the final presentation. The Mono\u00ef de Tahiti Tiar\u00e9 contains the visible flower inside the bottle. The Mono\u00ef de Tahiti - Bronzer Oil with Shimmer does not contain that visible whole flower, but shares the same Polynesian origin and the same traditional base of the Mono\u00ef de Tahiti.<\/p>\n

Thus, both products are part of the same tradition, although they respond to different uses and sensory experiences: Mono\u00ef de Tahiti Tiar\u00e9 as a classic oil and Mono\u00ef with Shine as a luminous oil to enhance the skin.

In the 1980s, many so-called \u201cMono\u00ef\u201d products from Asia or other regions were on the market, but without real Tiare flower, without Polynesian coconut oil and without traditional processing.<\/p>\n

This changed with the French decree of April 1, 1992, which made Mono\u00ef de Tahiti the world's first cosmetic appellation of origin.<\/p>\n

Since then, only the product made exclusively in French Polynesia, from Tiare flowers and coconut oil, following the established traditional procedures, can be called \u201cMono\u00ef de Tahiti\u201d.<\/p>\n
