The 2026 edition will be held under the theme of\u00a0\u00abVai Ma\u014baro\u00bb<\/strong>, inspired by the ancestral hydraulic complex\u00a0Ava Ra\u014ba Uka a Toroke Hau<\/em>. This theme pays tribute to the engineering and wisdom of the ancient Rapa Nui, who mastered water management in the isolation of the Pacific.<\/p>\n

Two young people, Heilany Rapu Hito<\/strong> y Heremeta Teao Manutomatoma<\/strong>, compete as ukas<\/strong> (candidates) representing their communities. At the end of the festival, one of them will be crowned as \u2018Ariki Vahine<\/strong> (Tapati Queen), becoming the face and symbol of the Rapa Nui culture throughout the year. Their families and communities support them in more than 40 cultural and artistic activities that include ancestral sports, dances, songs, handicrafts and local gastronomy.<\/p>\n

The Tapati recovers the skills that were part of the daily life of the ancient Rapa Nui. The\u00a0Haka Pei<\/strong>\u00a0is one of the most impressive tests: participants slide down a steep hill on banana tree trunks, reaching impressive speeds in a test of bravery and dexterity. The\u00a0Tau'a<\/strong>, The Rapa Nui triathlon, or Rapa Nui triathlon, combines swimming, running and sailing in Polynesian canoeing, demonstrating the endurance and ancestral skills of the competitors.
