We are already counting down to the beginning of the Tapati Rapa Nui 2022! Between the 4th and the 12th of February a new edition of this beautiful cultural festival will take place in which, in one way or another, the vast majority of the Easter Island community participates. This year will be the second year that we will not be able to receive visitors since the island is still closed due to the pandemic.
Perhaps precisely for this reason, it is felt very strongly that Tapati is not a "show" for tourists, but a celebration of Rapa Nui culture, gastronomy, ancestral sports, songs, dances, handicrafts, aimed at all the people who inhabit this wonderful and unique island.
In the photos you can see the dance rehearsals of the children's, youth and adult groups that took place throughout the month of January. In total, several hundred dancers of all ages will participate and, along with them, many other people dedicate days of work to making traditional costumes with natural materials such as shells, feathers, plants, seeds and mahute (a type of papyrus).
On this occasion, the Tapati's wall was painted by the artists Gustavo Bórquez Paoa, Christian Silva Araki and Teva Romero Haoa, with children and family as the main theme.
We are anxiously waiting for this Tapati to begin and to be able to share with you - wherever you are - this beautiful festival that shows the best of the Rapa Nui culture. We are sure that, as every year, it will be a wonderful event and we will be happy to bring it a little closer to all of you through beautiful photos and videos. Don't miss it on our social networks.
