Coconut Oil in Monoï de Tahiti

The coconut oil Cocos Nucifera Oil, also known as copra oil - is the base oil from which the authentic Monoï de Tahiti Anakena is made. It is obtained from the pulp of the coconut, the fruit of a palm tree with a long, slender trunk whose image alone evokes paradisiacal beaches and turquoise seas.

For centuries, this oil has occupied a privileged place both in cosmetics and in the traditional medicine of tropical peoples. Its richness in lauric acid and vitamin E makes it an exceptionally nourishing ingredient: it deeply moisturizes, protects the skin from moisture loss and gives it elasticity. It is therefore widely used in the production of butters, soaps, lotions, shampoos and creams, providing a smooth and creamy texture.

Beyond its cosmetic benefits, coconut oil is recognized for its antiseptic, bactericidal and astringent properties. In tropical countries, it is used in folk medicine as a remedy to relieve burns, soothe coughs and reduce fever.

Why is coconut oil ideal for Monoï de Tahiti? Its molecular structure allows it to absorb and retain the active ingredients and the aroma of the Tiaré flowers (Gardenia Tahitensis) during the maceration process, which lasts several days. It is precisely this union between French Polynesian coconut oil and delicate Tiare flowers that gives rise to the characteristic and sensual fragrance of Monoi de Tahiti Anakena.
